Renovation Update – December 12, 2021

Last week was a really good week of progress. The flooring contractor brought in a crew of at least 15 workers and got a tremendous amount of work done in the sanctuary, as shown in the first photo. Downstairs, the kitchen finishes are in progress and nearing completion.

Here is a photo taken of the flooring crew installing the Tyndall Stone, a cream-coloured limestone containing numerous fossils, with a darker mottling that gives it a tapestry-like effect. Tyndall Stone is from the Gillies Quarries located northeast of Winnipeg. It was first used in 1832 for building Lower Fort Garry. It has since become popular for building purposes throughout Canada and the United States (information source: Wikipedia). Our architect and renovation team chose this flooring because of its aesthetic and practical qualities – and its direct link to our natural world.

The sanctuary’s front feature wall tiling and grouting have been completed. 

Here is a photo of our Church School room showing the cupboards and counter millwork that has been installed. There are still lots of millwork window frames and doors to paint throughout the building. As final painting and ceilings finish up in areas, mechanical and electrical devices and cover plates will be installed in preparation for final inspections.

The tiling on the community stairway from the main floor to the lower level has been laid.

The Lower Hall ceiling and floor preparation has been completed – now flooring can begin!

The kitchen plumbing has been installed. Here is a photo from the food preparation island to the “dish pit” and sanitizer (in a similar location as the old kitchen). Our range (on back order) is in town now!

The downstairs corridor has been prime coated; now for painting and tiling. The downstairs multi-purpose rooms are similarly nearing completion.

All stair exits from the basement are ready for the finishes; painting and tiling.

With the work that remains, we continue to anticipate that we will be able to receive an occupancy permit and access to the sanctuary early in 2022. Stay tuned for confirmation of opening day.

Meanwhile, our live-streamed Sunday worship services will continue in the gym, with our minister, choir members and other worship leaders present—and in-person attendance encouraged according to our special gathering protocols.
