Renovation Update – January 9, 2022

Since Christmas, there has been lots of finishing work happening in the Spirit of Hope building, including foyer feature wall millwork (surrounding the Good Shepherd window), painting, the addition of hardware and glass to the interior doors, floor installation in the chancel and its ramp and in the Lower Hall and tiling and grouting throughout. Appliances for the café have been installed. Many of the tradespeople working onsite are expected to finish their work and cleanup within the next week!

The maple hardwood flooring has been laid in the chancel and the ramp flooring has also been completed. 

Here is a photo of the completed left side feature wall in the sanctuary, with the chalice memorial window in the centre, surrounded by the four vision windows created by Warren Mack. 

The audio-visual booth located at the back left of the sanctuary appears in the bottom left corner of this photo. Looking across the sanctuary floor, you can see the chancel and its access ramp, with the left side of the front feature wall visible.

The Good Shepherd window framing and light sconces have been installed. This photo is taken from inside the sanctuary.

Here is a photo of the Good Shepherd octagon stained-glass window that is located at the back of the sanctuary—as seen from the foyer. Work has continued on the millwork panels surrounding this window; it is expected it will be completed in the first week of January.

This photo shows the lower-level elevator lobby, located just around the corner from the bottom of the community stair.

This photo shows the audio-visual booth that has been created at the back of the Lower Hall. Immediately to the right is the lower hallway and elevator lobby area. On the far side is the community stairway leading to the upstairs. 

The lower level bathrooms have new vanities.

With the work that remains, we continue to anticipate that we will be able to receive an occupancy permit and access to the sanctuary early in 2022. Stay tuned for confirmation of opening day.

Meanwhile, our live-streamed Sunday worship services will continue in the gym, with our minister, choir members and other worship leaders present—and in-person attendance encouraged according to our special gathering protocols.
