Renovation Update – December 5, 2021

Over the past three weeks, work has progressed well on both the lower level and main floor. For this update, we will start with the lower hall and commercial kitchen that is taking shape, followed by the offices and Church School spaces, the foyer café area and finally the sanctuary. In early December the steel installer will install the exterior stairs on the west side, followed by the handrails out front.

Here is the Lower Hall, looking from the kitchen. You can see the opening for the elevator just to the left and behind the bottom of the yellow wall. The community stair is located on the mid-right of the picture. 

Here is the opening to the kitchen taken from the right. We look forward to the first coffee time, BLT! breakfast and potluck! 

All of the kitchen components were delivered the week of November 15, except for the stove that is on back-order. Pieces requiring hookups have been placed. Here are the deep sinks and dish sanitizer. 

Here is the view of the kitchen looking out into the Lower Hall. There is a food preparation island in the middle of the room. 

Here is the view in the downstairs hallway looking from the Lower Hall to the bottom of the new west exit stairs. Flooring and painting will be ongoing for the next month throughout the downstairs. 

Over the next two weeks millwork will be installed throughout. This refers to any custom-made woodwork that is built as part of the finishing process. It is building material made at a factory or mill and includes interior trim, doors, shelving, stair treads, moulding and flooring. This photo shows the millwork components delivered for the café. 

The main floor offices and Church School room are 99% done, all painted with flooring, base, and ceiling tile all installed; blinds will be added to the windows. 

All of the 15 stained-glass windows have been installed in the sanctuary; with backlighting to be completed later. This shows the view from the front of the sanctuary (chancel) looking to the back.

The installation of the beautiful front feature wall tile required tall scaffolding. Floor tiling will begin in early December.

With the work that remains, we continue to anticipate that we will be able to receive an occupancy permit and access to the sanctuary early in 2022. Stay tuned for confirmation of opening day.

Meanwhile, our live-streamed Sunday worship services will continue in the gym, with our minister, choir members and other worship leaders present—and in-person attendance encouraged according to our gathering protocols.
