RENOVATION UPDATE - APRIL 25, 2021

It has been just over a month since the Chandos Construction teams began working on the renovation of the Spirit of Hope United Church building. During this time, they have been clearing the spaces that will be changed and removed wall panels and some stairs to expose and confirm the structural basis for building. They have found no significant “surprises” associated with renovating an older building such as ours. Chandos has progressed as scheduled, including special attention to the needs of our daycare tenant and our neighbours to ensure that the entire site is managed well. We are most fortunate to have such as skilled and diligent company working with us.

Here are a few photos of how our building is being prepared for transformation!

The back wall of the sanctuary has been removed,

as well as the glass walls and floor covering of the Triangle Room.

The walls and carpeting of the rooms along the south side of the building (alley side) have been removed, including those of the Rainbow Room and Reverend Blaine’s office.

The supporting structure for the ramp has been exposed and partially taken apart.

In addition, we are happy to report that Warren Mack has completed the creation of two of three new stained-glass windows designed for our renovated sanctuary space. Here is a sneak preview of “Spirit of Truth.”

We are truly blessed with the talent, skill and amazing dedication of many, many people who have been involved — and continue to be enthusiastically engaged — in this project: architect Barb Reid, the Chandos Construction teams, and numerous Spirit of Hope members.

We look forward to continuing this journey together, with others getting involved in new and inspiring ways.
