Renovation Update – August 1, 2021

We are playing catch up on our renovation updates. The photos included in this article were taken a few weeks ago, on July 6 and 10. The Chandos construction team had continued to meet project deadlines; proceeding well and going above and beyond.

Much work had been completed since our update in mid-June in all areas of the building: the sanctuary, offices, front foyer, elevator shaft, community stairway, kitchen, downstairs corridor and new west entrance. Construction of the front gardens had begun. The following photos give you an idea.

In the sanctuary the bulkhead framing was complete (facing on lower part of ceiling, around the edges). The quiet room (on the left side of this photo) was boarded and taped for painting. Photo taken July 6.

The chancel ramp and stage framing had been completed. The organ speaker platform (see next photo) is located behind the ladder, in the area in the top centre part of this photo. Photo taken July 6.

Behind the front of the chancel, the organ speaker platform was installed. Photo taken July 6.

The offices had been boarded and taped, ready for painting – as had the elevator shaft and downstairs corridor. Photo taken July 6.

The creation of the community stair and bleacher seating (partially completed on the right) had proceeded. Photo taken July 6.

In the kitchen area, the new entryway had been framed in and the roughing in of the water, gas and power had been done (fume hood for stove is shown at the centre back of this photo). Photo taken July 6.

The fence was in place in the front and exterior demolition and construction of the front gardens had begun. Photo taken July 11.

Since these photos were taken, the construction teams have transitioned to finishing large areas upstairs and down (painting, flooring, mechanical and electrical fixtures) and begun to work on the gym and upstairs washrooms. (The gym is expected to reopen in mid-September.) Key mechanical equipment needed on the roof has been delivered and roof repairs have begun. Details relating to the stained-glass window installation are being sorted out by Warren Mack and the contractor.

Stay tuned for another update next week!
