Renovation Update – December 26, 2021

This will be the last Spirit of Hope United Church renovation report of 2021. We continue to move along with the renos as shown in the photos that follow.

The backlighting for the stained-glass windows in both the front and side feature walls of the sanctuary has been installed; for the front wall tall scaffolding was used. 

Here is a photo of the completed front feature wall. The light fixtures around the entire perimeter of the sanctuary have been installed.

Here is a photo of the Good Shepherd octagon stained-glass window that is located at the back of the sanctuary—as seen from the foyer. The millwork panels surrounding this window on the feature wall are being installed. This complements the aspen tree feature behind the Welcome Desk. Millwork continues on the audio-visual booth, located within the sanctuary.

One of the rooms on the upper level is the Art Room – here shown with its sink and supplies closet installed. 

Here is the Community Stairway, looking down into the Lower Hall. The hardwood component on the left side is ready for finishing, as is the chancel area at the front of the sanctuary. 

We have two “multi-purpose” rooms in the Lower Level, where work is nearing completion, including carpeting.

The stair treads in the new northwest exit stairwell have been installed.

Floor finishing is proceeding throughout the building. The grouting and sealing of the Tyndall Stone tiling in the sanctuary and foyer is done. Carpet has been laid in the downstairs games room and multi-purpose rooms and vinyl flooring installed and seamed in other rooms, including the Lower Hall.

Final inspections have been completed for the elevator and kitchen, with the fire alarm system next on the list. We expect that many of the trades will be completing their work in the few weeks following the holiday.

With the work that remains, we continue to anticipate that we will be able to receive an occupancy permit and access to the sanctuary early in 2022. Stay tuned for confirmation of opening day.

Meanwhile, our live-streamed Sunday worship services will continue in the gym, with our minister, choir members and other worship leaders present—and in-person attendance encouraged according to our special gathering protocols.

What an extraordinary group of people with a multitude of skills, great teamwork, adaptability, on-the-spot problem solving and sheer determination and hard work!
